I wanted to share something on this Monday morning, not because it’s an epic sunset shot or because it’s my most outstanding image of 2019, but because it is something small and incredibly meaningful, and I think those need to be celebrated and showcased as well. This is an email from Claire that I received after they’d viewed their images of the wedding day I photographed at Pimhill Barns.

“On a happier note we absolutely love the photos and the video. As you know we avoided looking at the photos & video whilst on our honeymoon but when my gran went in to hospital, I sent it over so that she could be shown it. You actually capture a bittersweet moment of her telling me that she had been so worried that she wouldn't make the wedding and that she was so glad she had. So thank you.”

This is one of the reasons I think it’s SO important to book a photographer who is always looking out for the tiny gestures and not just the killer confetti shots on your wedding day. A wedding is made up of so much love & history and being able to capture that in my job makes my heart burst with pride. One of the reason I called myself a documentary wedding photographer is because I am always looking out for moments like this - listening to conversations and reading expressions to make sure I capture every tiny bit of the day.

I am hoping to share more of these on the blog this year, as a reminder of what photography can capture and how important images can be to couples, not just on the day but for months and years afterwards.
